Barnard was Count of Autun, Margrave of Septamania, the famous Chamberlain of Louis the Pious, executed in 844 at Aachen.

On 24 Jun 824 Bernard I married Dhuoda, daughter of Duke Sancho of Gascony (772-816), in Aachen. Born ca 804. Dhuoda died aft 2 Feb 843.
