On 10 Oct 821 Lothar I first married Ermengarde of Tours (289) , daughter of Comte Hugh II de Alsase & Tours (248) (ca 765-ca 836/939) & Bava of Tours (ca 779-), in Thionville, Moselle, France. Born ca 800. Ermengarde died on 20 Mar 851. Buried in Abbaye D'Erstein, Strasbourg, Alsace.

Gerard (also spelled Gerhard) died at the Battle of Fontenoy. Apparently, he is the earliest definitive ancestor of the house of Poitou.

In 827 Louis II married Hemma of Bavaria, daughter of Count Welf of Bavaria & Swabia (-ca 820/825) & Eigilwich of Saxony (-ca 833). Hemma died in Jan 876.
