Samuel received early education from his father. He studied for the ministry under Rev. James Fitch of Norwich. He was ordained 4 Dec 1700 , the first minister of Windham. In 1731 he published a Thanksgiving sermon. He died suddenly at the home of Rev. Nathaniel Collins, his cousin and brother-in-law. inscription on tombstone: “Here lies the body of the Rev Mr Samuel Whiting late successful minister of Windham who died Sept 27, 1725 in the 56 yar of his age.”171
