From A historical sketch of the town of Hanover, Mass:174
Thomas lived in Scituate, his farm lying near Palmer’s bridge, by the third Herring brook, and his house being the same as that now [1853] occupied by his grandson, Elijah. He was a ship-builder by trade, as were his ancestors before him, and occupied the yard whose site is marked by the two venerable white oaks.

From L. Vernon Brigg’s History and Genealogy of the Briggs Family:42
Thomas was “the shipbuilder at the ‘Two Oaks’ yard on North River, whose partner was Capt. Robert Lenthan Eells of Hanover. Two of Thomas’s sons married daughters of Capt. Eells: Col. John Burden Barstow married Betsey Eells, an d his brother, Deacon Elijah married her sister Lucy. When the Barstow brothers married, they built homes for their brides that were practically identical in character,—the house of Col. John B., on the corner of Broadway and Elm Street, Hanover, the ‘Brodad Oak Farm’ of Col. L Vernon Briggs; while Deacon Elijah built upon a part of his father’s estate, on the Scituate side of the Third Herring Brook, the house in which his son, Captain Elijah, afterward lived. Since the death of Captain Barstow the house has had several owners. It is now (1937) owned by Professor Hunt of Harvard University.”
