From the Lapham Family Register, pages 14–15:195
    Three years after his marrage to Sarah, accompanied by his aged father and mother, Abijah emigrated to the District of Maine. They sailed from Scituate Harbor in a small coasting vessel and landed at Yarmouth. From this place they made their way through the wilderness to Buckfield. He took up land in that part of the town afterwards known as the Turner neighborhood. Here his first wife died, and he married Abigail, daughter of John Buck. He subsequently moved to a farm south of Buckfield village where he lived several years. About the year 1820 he moved to Bethel where he died March 1, 1847. He was Deacon of the Calvanist Baptist Church for many years.
