James Cogin and Mary Dix both Residing in Newton were entered and Published July 28th 1804.
(A question of middle names: James and Mary’s children were given middle names Thompson, Phelps, Aires, and Dix. Son Ebenezer Thompson Coggin was named after James’s step-father who brought him up. Dix was Mary’s surname. Phelps and Aires do not seem to be maternal surnames, except perhaps through James’s grandmother Mary Coggin. The first names Abner and Gilman are puzzling, too. Perhaps Abner Phelps Coggin and Gilman Aires Coggin were named in honor of unrelated individuals.)
