255. King Egbert of Wessex. Born in 775 in Wessex. Egbert died on 4 Feb 839 in Wessex. Buried in Winchester Cathedral, London.

Egbert, also spelled Ecbryht, king of Wessex from 802 to 839. He was the son of an underking of Kent. He eventually secured submission of Kent, East Anglia, Mercia, and Northumbria thereby becoming overload of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. He was succeeded by his son Æthewulf.

ca 805 Egbert married Raedburh (245) , daughter of Count Theuderic I of Autun (ca 730-aft 791) & Alda of Austrasia (209) (ca 732-bef 804). Born ca 788.
