Æthelwulf, king of Wessex from 839 to 856, succeeding his father. While on pilgrimage in Rome that his son Æthelbald would resist his return. He left his son as king of Wessex, but ruled in Kent and dependencies until his death.
ca 830 Æthelwulf first married Osburh, daughter of Oslac (ca 785-). Born ca 810 in Wessex. Osburh died in 860. Marriage was annulled in 853.
