On 11 Aug 1137 Ramón Berenguer IV first married Queen Petronilla of Aragon (2141) , daughter of King Ramiro II of Aragon & Navarre (1651) (ca 1075-16 Aug 1157) & Agnes d’ Aquitaine (1777) (ca 1100-). Born ca 1135. Petronilla died on 17 Oct 1174 in Barcelona.

Petronilla, queen of Aragon (1137-1162). When her father abdicated his kingship, Petronilla was betrothed at age 2 to Count Ramón Berrenguer IV of Barcelona who was entrusted with the administration of the kingdom. After Petronilla and Ramón, the Kingdom of Aragon and the County of Barcelona were united in one individual.

2003. Bernardo of Barcelona. Bernardo died ca 1117.

2004. Berenguela of Barcelona. Born ca 1116 in Saldana. Berenguela died on 15 Jan 1149 in Palencia, Spain. Buried in Cathedral de Santiago el Mayor, Santiago de Compostella.

On 10 Nov 1128 Berenguela married King Alfonso VII of Castile & León (1874) , son of Comte Raymond de Bourgogne (1465) (ca 1060/1070-1107) & Queen Urraca of Castile & León (1517) (1082-8 Mar 1126), in Saldana, Spain. Born on 1 Mar 1105 in Castile. Alfonso VII died in Fresneda, Spain, on 21 Aug 1157; he was 52. Buried in Cathedral de Santa Maria, Toledo.

Alfonso VII, King of Castile & Léon (1126-1157). He was crowned Emperor at the Cathedral of Léon in 1135. Others had called themselves Emperor, but apparently his was the only coronation.

Upon Alfonso’s death, he divided his realms between his sons—Sancho III of Castile, and Ferdinand II of Léon.
