In 1191 Berenguela married King Richard I of England (2747) , son of King Henry II of England (2460) (5 Mar 1133-6 Jul 1189) & Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine (2270) (1123-1 Apr 1204), in Lemassol, Cyprus. Born on 8 Sep 1157 in Beaumont Palace, Oxford. Richard I died in Castle of Chalus, Aquitaine, on 6 Apr 1199; he was 41. Buried in Abbey, Fontevrault.

Richard I, called Coeur de Lion, the Lion-Hearted, king of England (1189-1199), also duke of Aquitaine and Normandy, and Count of Anjou (1189-1199). He succeeded his father Henry II and was succeeded by his brother John. He died of a wound received while besieging Châlus.
