On 12 May 1239 Marie first married King Alexander II of Scotland (2917) , son of King William I of Scotland (2449) (1142/3-4 Dec 1214), in Roxburgh. Born in 1198. Alexander II died in 1249.

Alexander, king of Scotland (), succeeded his father William I and was succeeded by his son Alexander III.

In 1257 Marie second married Jean de Brienne (3734) , son of Jean de Brienne Emperor of Constantinople (ca 1168-21 Mar 1237) & Berenguela de León (3303) (ca 1198-12 Apr 1237). Born ca 1225. Jean died in 1296.
