On 10 May 1220 Hugues X first married Isabel Taillifer d’ Angoulême (2893) , daughter of Comte Aymar III d’ Angoulême (2503) (ca 1160-16 Jun 1202) & Alix de Courtenay (2419) (ca 1160-14 Sep 1218). Born ca 1186/1188. Isabel Taillifer died on 31 May 1246 in Fontevrault. Buried in Fontrevault Abbey, Maine-et-Loire.

In 1244 Isabel may have attempted to have King Louis IX of France assassinated. She fled to Fontevraud convent where she took the veil.
