324. King Æthelbald of Wessex. Æthelbald died in 860.

Æthelbald, king of Wessex, refused to allow his father to return to the kingdom after a pilgramage to Rome. He married his father’s widow, Judith of France.

In 858 Æthelbald married Judith of France (372) , daughter of King Charles II of France Holy Roman Emperor (314) (13 Jun 823-6 Oct 877) & Ermentrude d’ Orléans (347) (27 Sep 830-6 Oct 869). Born ca 844. Judith died aft 870.

They had no children.

325. King Æthelbert of Wessex. Æthelbert died in 866.

326. King Æthelred I of Wessex. Born ca 844 in Wantage, Berkshire. Æthelred I died in Apr 871.

Æthelred, also spelled Ethelred, king of Wessex from 866 to 871.

Æthelred I married Wulfthryth.

327. Alfred the Great of Wessex King of England. Born in 849 in Wantage, Berkshire. Alfred the Great died on 26 Oct 899 in Winchester, Hampshire.

Alfred the Great was, from 871 to 899, king of Wessex. His three elder brothers were king before him: Æthelbald (856-860), Æthelbert (860-866), and Æthelred (866-871). Wessex was a Saxon kingdom in southwestern England. He was succeeded by his son Edward.

In 867 Alfred the Great married Ealhswith of Mercia, daughter of Earl Æthelred of Mercia (ca 825-) & Eadburh. Born ca 852 in Mercia. Ealhswith died on 5 Dec 905.
