1939. King William III of England. Born in Feb 1102. William III died on 10 Sep 1167.

1940. Empress Matilda of Germany. Born on 7 Feb 1102 in WInchester, England. Matilda died in Notre Dame des Pres, Rouen, on 10 Sep 1167; she was 65.

Matilda, also known as Maud. Her father died in 1135 and was succeeded by her sousin Stephen. In 1139 she and her half-brother Robert, Earl of Gloucester, challenged Stephen. She was made “lady of the English” in 1141 when she captured Stephen, but she was soon dethroned. She withdrew her challenge in 1148 in favor of her son Henry. Upon the death of Stephen’s son Eustace in 1153, Stephen named Matilda’s son Henry his heir.

Matilda first married Heinrich V Holy Roman Emperor (1775) , son of Heinrich IV of Franconia Holy Roman Emperor (1376) (11 Nov 1050-7 Aug 1106) & Bertha of Maurienne (1982) (21 Sep 1051-27 Dec 1087). Born on 11 Aug 1081. Heinrich V died on 23 May 1125; he was 43.

They had no children.

On 3 Apr 1126 when Matilda was 24, she second married Comte Geoffrey V Plantagenet d’ Anjou (2353) , son of Comte Foulques V d’ Anjou King of Jerusalem (1871) (1092-10 Nov 1143) & Comtesse Ermengarde de Maine (1867) (ca 1096-1126), in Le Mans. Born on 24 Aug 1113 in Anjou, France. Geoffrey V Plantagenet died in Château du Loire, Eure-et-Loire, on 7 Sep 1151; he was 38. Buried in St. Julians, Le Mans, Anjou.

Geoffrey V Plantagenet, Count of Anjou, Touraine, & Maine (1129-1151), and Duke of Normandy (1144-1151).
